Big goals are overwhelming by design
A 90-day goal, looked at all at once, is intimidating enough to trigger avoidance. The fix is to stop looking at the whole thing and start working in milestones — meaningful checkpoints every 2–3 weeks.
Milestones turn “write a book” into “finish the outline by week 2, draft three chapters by week 6.” Each one is a small finish line, and crossing finish lines is what keeps momentum alive.
How to set them
- Work backward from your 90-day outcome.
- Place 3–4 milestones along the way, each one a visible marker of progress.
- Make each milestone binary — either you hit it or you didn’t. No “sort of.”
Milestones also give you early warning. If you miss the first one, you learn in week 2 that something needs adjusting — not in week 11 when it’s too late to recover.
