Insight comes from exercises, not just thinking
You cannot think your way to self-knowledge by staring at the ceiling. Structured exercises get past your rehearsed self-image and surface what’s actually true.
Try these this week
- The envy audit: whose life or work makes you quietly envious? Envy is a clumsy messenger pointing at what you secretly want.
- The childhood thread: what did you love doing at age 10, before anyone told you what was practical?
- The eulogy exercise: what would you want said about how you lived? That’s your purpose, stated backward.
- The energy log: for a week, note what energizes and what drains you. The pattern is data about your real design.
Do them with a pen, not just in your head — writing forces specificity. Don’t judge what surfaces; just collect it. Patterns across several exercises are far more trustworthy than any single answer.
