After purchasing Sonrisa four years ago, we undertook a major remodeling effort, placing a priority on eco-friendly building materials. At that time, some green materials were difficult to find and relatively expensive, but we were happy with the results. As our business grew and people embraced our eco friendly services and products we ran out of space and needed to expand. We knew that moving offered an opportunity utilize all that we had learned and go even GREENER.
This time we received significant help from the architect, contractor and developer who understood and embraced our vision and helped bring it to reality. Some of the results include:
- Site Selection: A second generation retail space was chosen and the new architectural design customized to take advantage of the existing infrastructure and improvements including walls, lighting systems, restrooms, break room cabinetry, flooring and doors, to name a few.
- New Materials: Priority was placed on using materials certified as green or environmentally responsible. Examples include light weight sheet rock containing 25% less gypsum, carpet made from recycled plastic, cabinets certified by the KCMA Environmental Responsibility Program, and Zero VOC paint.
- Repurposed Materials: Every effort was made to repurpose materials used in the current location including shelving (which had been originally acquired from Habitat for Humanity). The large reception/retail desk left by the former tenant at the new location was separated into three pieces and repurposed as cabinets in the new space. High end retail shelving was purchased from another business that had consolidated operations.
- Appliances and HVAC: The new sauna, steam shower and jetted tub have the highest energy efficiency ratings as does the upgraded Heating and Air Conditioning unit.
We are excited for you to see and experience our new beautiful space that complements our great staff and the organic and natural hair, skin and body care we offer. We believe our clients deserve the best!
